Sequential application of heterogeneous models for the safetyanalysis of a control system: a case study
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper shows how heterogeneous stochastic modelling techniques of increasing modelling power can be applied to assess the safety of a digital control system. First, a Fault-Tree (FT) has been built to model the system, assuming two-state components and independent failures. Then, the FT is automatically converted into a Bayesian Network, allowing to include more modelling details and localized dependencies. Finally, in order to accommodate repair activities and perform an availability analysis, the FT is converted into a Stochastic Petri Net (SPN). Moving from a combinatorial model (the FT) to a state space based model (the SPN) increases the modelling flexibility, but incurs into the state space explosion problem. In order to alleviate the state space explosion problem, this paper resorts to the use of a particular type of high level (coloured) Petri nets called SWN. A digital control system is considered as a case study, and safety measures have been evaluated, referring to the emergent standard IEC 61508. q 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Chronic heterogeneous sequential stress increases formalin-induced nociceptive
Abstract Introduction: Chronic heterogeneous stress may be better for evaluation of the effect of chronic stress situations on the nociceptive behaviour. The present study investigated the effects of chronic heterogeneous sequential stress on thermal-induced nociception and formalin induced pain behavior in rats. Methods: In the present study, adult rats (220-300 g) were used. Animals were ...
متن کاملSpatial modelling of zonality elements based on compositional nature of geochemical data using geostatistical approach: a case study of Baghqloom area, Iran
Due to the existence of a constant sum of constraints, the geochemical data is presented as the compositional data that has a closed number system. A closed number system is a dataset that includes several variables. The summation value of variables is constant, being equal to one. By calculating the correlation coefficient of a closed number system and comparing it with an open number system, ...
متن کاملHydrograph Modeling Using SGSim: A Case Study of Behbahan Aquifer, Southwest of Iran
Hydrograph modeling and prediction of groundwater levels are the main concerns of most hydrogeological calculations and water resource management process. The present study is an application of Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGSim) method for predicting groundwater levels using recorded monthly data (180 months) related to 21 piezometers of Behbahan aquifer, southwest of Iran. To generate real...
متن کاملIdentification of the Origin and Behaviour of Arsenic in Mine Waste Dumps Using Correlation Analysis: A Case Study Sarcheshmeh Copper Mine
Knowledge of the probable origin and behaviour of arsenic certainly gives valuable insights into the potential for transfer in the environment and of the risks involved in mining sites. Sequential extraction analyses are common experiments often used to study the origin and behaviour of potentially toxic elements. The method, however, presents some deficiencies, including labor-intensive proced...
متن کاملApplication of Multivariate Control Charts for Condition Based Maintenance
Condition monitoring is the foundation of a condition based maintenance (CBM). To relate the information obtained from the condition monitoring to the actual state of the system, it is usually required a stochastic model. On the other hand, considering the interactions and similarities that exist between CBM and statistical process control (SPC), the integrated models for CBM and SPC have been ...
